Witness or not, I would want to know what my kids are doing on social media, especially if they are preteens. So I guess I'm not so critical of that aspect.

Another example of the smothering and high control nature of JW husbands
by stuckinarut2 ini have noticed another popular pattern of behaviour amongst witnesses in recent years.. many, and i mean lots of ones with instagram accounts have closed the wife's account, and have started a "couple's" account instead.
also, for families.
the children's accounts have been closed, and the husband starts a "family account".. it is mainly on the husband's device, and seemingly under his control.

What I Noticed At An Event During This Week. . . . . .
by HiddlesWife ini attended an event this week with my usual closest relatives, which was inside a community center-ish venue with a backyard area.
it was given by my cousin's best friend.
she invited around 50 people of all age groups and racially-mixed.

In 1974 it was "disco" parties. They did the "Hustle" and wore bell bottomed pants, scandalous. 99% of those people are no longer witnesses. Things don't change much really. There are always those who flaunt their love for fads and trends. There will always be those who clamp down on them out of self righteous concern for their survival of the big A. Its all such a waste of breath.

Marry only in the Lord
by Jules Saturn inthe second half of 1 corinthians 7:39 reads "...she is free to be married to whomever she wants, only in the lord.".
so we all know that scripture for being doctrine for witnesses when they select a marriage mate and how they are strictly encouraged to marry amongst themselves and look down upon or marked if they marry an outsider.
i have a friend who met a worldly man and when it came to light, her father gave her the option to end the relationship or to marry him, and she chose the latter.

Let's face it, its smart to marry without bringing the teachings of a cult into the mix. Only in the Lord makes sense if you earnestly believe the crap they are shoveling. No arguments over holidays with the kids etc. Who needs that nightmare? Each example of how "marrying OUT of the Lord" mentioned here which were successful, include the point that the "Lord" was removed from their marriages. They all came to a union of belief in their marriages. So being of one mind is a benefit. "Only in the Lord" is no guarantee of success because those "in" the Lord are themselves slaves to another mate, the WT governing body who go to bed with them each night.

1 Timothy 6:1: One of the funniest verses in the Bible that reveals its very shortsighted human authorship.
by Island Man inlet those who are under the yoke of slavery keep on considering their owners worthy of full honor, so that the name of god and the teaching may never be spoken of injuriously - 1 timothy 6:1. .
yes, you've read correctly.
it's not the fact that the author condones slavery and never tells his readers that it's bad to own slaves - it's not that that will bring reproach on the religion, no!

If I recall correctly there are different flavors of slavery. There is brutality and servitude and then there is a sort of trusted servitude with possibility of freedom. An indebted Israelite could sell themselves into slavery to repay the debt, becoming free when it was worked off. It wasn't like slaves in the US during the civil war.

I would want to be the friend of Ard, because let's face it, who wants to be friends with anyone named Muppim or Huppim? Maybe Jim Henson.
(Genesis 46:21) 21 And the sons of Benjamin were ... Mup′pim and Hup′pim and Ard.

Spiritual headship question
by charity7 innon jw here married to a jw.
i was told by two witnesses that if a woman jw were to marry a non jw that she would have no say whatsoever in what their children would believe or go to church if he was of a different religious belief and he enforced it.
from what i've read in different threads this is actually not the case.

*** w02 8/15 p. 30 Questions From Readers ***
...the unbelieving husband might insist that his children practice his religion, taking them to his place of worship and giving them religious education according to his faith. Or a husband may be opposed to all religion and insist that his children receive no religious education. As the head of the family, he is the one primarily responsible for making the decision.[Footnote]
The wife’s legal right to free practice of religion includes her right to attend Christian meetings. In some cases, a husband has been unwilling to care for minor children at those times, so the loving mother was obliged to take them with her to the meetings. -

"Is There a Creator Who Cares About You?" -- New Light Edition
by cognisonance inafter studying hubble space telescope images of the night's sky and attending classes under disguise at wor-wic community college (air travel and tuition funded by your donations no less), gerrit losch managed to secure a two-thirds majority vote among the governing body to release a second updated edition of the creator book.
this new edition replaces the "pillars of creation" (eagle nebula) cover photo with "god's birdie" (carina nebula):.
they've also had a change of heart with regards the concept of intellectual honesty and have updated the quote on page 9 that said:.

Have you ever looked back at your early posts on here?
by stuckinarut2 inno doubt we are all overjoyed at how we have progressed since breaking the shackles of the society!.
for those that have been here on this forum for some time, have you ever looked back at the version of "you" that first started posting here, and compared yourself with where you are at now?.
i am overjoyed at how much i have grown as a person!.

This thread made me really think. I would say that when I first posted there was fear of exposure, not to God, but to other active JW's. Now they can take a flying leap as far as I care.

Why I like this site
by UnshackleTheChains inthe reason i like this site is in the fact that it speaks the truth warts and all.
the very title 'jehovahs witness discussion forum' draws the avarage witness to the site, perhaps thinking it is 'apostate' free.. the good thing is that jw's can read the real truth about the organisation/society...no holds barred.
my hope is that more people caught up in this captive religious organisation will open their eyes to reality!.
-

Perhaps that's why so many feel a responsibility to not post extremist views or unbalanced junk that detract from the valuable points made by those who have survived the organization's duplicity.

Hi from England
by victimofdeceit inrecently quit being a jw because i realised that beyond armageddon i was going to be ruled by people who cover up child abuse, not telling the congregations by their letter where the money they donated in the box is going towards paying compensation for legal battles which they caused, and also i was bullied by elders and discriminated against for being homosexual, even though i am not practicing it.
it wasn't until i threatened legal action for a breach of confidence that the elders were deleted.
so through the media and my own personal experience, i realised that they were no different to corrupt businesses in the world.

When you take control of your life you will cease to be a victim any longer. As you stop thinking the "world" is out to get you, you will find new and better friends. Don't be dismayed if you do not make a lot of friends, inside or outside the organization you usually have one or perhaps two good close friends. The other people you will interact with will be much less judgemental though. So put on your seat belt and get moving, the world is waiting! Of course many here are in the same situation. We'll be here to help as we are able. Welcome!
